Homes and community buildings
Floodwater and debris can destroy or weaken homes, leaving families without safe shelter while continued rain makes damaged structures more dangerous.
Healthcare disruption
Flooded health posts, blocked roads and medicine shortages make urgent treatment difficult just as injuries, infections and other health needs increase.
Education interrupted
Flooded schools, damaged learning materials and displaced households can interrupt education for weeks or months. Schools may also become temporary shelters.
Water, sanitation and disease risk
Contaminated springs, wells and pipelines reduce access to safe drinking water. Damaged sanitation increases the risk of diarrhoeal and other waterborne diseases.
Roads, power and communications
Washed-out roads, bridges and landslides can isolate mountain communities, interrupt electricity and communications, and delay rescue and relief deliveries.
Livelihood and food insecurity
